Volume was used in Nauvoo as a case docket for both the mayor's court (1841 October-1843 February) and the municipal court (1842 March-1845 February). University of Nauvoo chancellor John C. Bennett also recorded notations relating to the university and school teachers (1841-1842).
Historical items recorded by Historian's Office clerks include James M. Barlow's list of 1833 Missouri mobbers, James Gammall's report of Clinton Harris's healing by Joseph Smith in 1830, and copies of the 1843 Truthiana articles.
Includes copies of Robert Dickson's 1854 letter reporting on the Southern Indian mission led by Rufus Allen; 1855 Indians' report about Utah district attorney Jacob H. Holeman; George W. Bean's 1855 report on the route to Carson Valley (Nevada); Colonel E. J. Steptoe's 1855 recommendation for O. P. Rockwell; and George A. Smith's 1856 letter about the writing of Joseph Smith's history and his 1857 Utah War report.
Other items include 1850s Church membership statistics and lists of bishops and missionaries; 1855-1856 general conference minutes; 1867 list of those in the first 1847 pioneer company; and 1874 copy of extracts from Orson Pratt's 1846 journal recording the settlement of Garden Grove (Iowa).
Also registered are 1856 missionary blessings given to Samuel H. B. Smith, Orson Pratt, George A. Smith, Ezra T. Benson, Erastus Snow, Truman O. Angell, and Phinehas H. Young; and Joseph F. Smith's 1866 ordination as an apostle.
