Biographical information about members of the Quorum of the Twelve. Most biographies were written for inclusion in Brigham Young's manuscript history and include both autobiographical submissions and biographies compiled by Wilford Woodruff and copied by Historian's Office clerks Robert L. Campbell and Richard Bentley. Many accounts contain information about Joseph Smith, missionary work, and events in Kirtland, Ohio; Jackson and Caldwell counties, Missouri; and Nauvoo, Illinois.
Includes autobiographies of Ezra T. Benson, Orson Hyde, Luke Johnson, Amasa M. Lyman, Thomas B. Marsh, Orson Pratt, Parley P. Pratt, George A. Smith, Lorenzo Snow, John Taylor, and Wilford Woodruff; also includes Lyman Wight's autobiography contained in a letter to Wilford Woodruff in 1858.
Wilford Woodruff wrote biographies of John F. Boynton, Lyman E. Johnson, William E. McLellin, David W. Patten (extracted from Patten's journal), John E. Page, Willard Richards, and William Smith. Biographies of Charles C. Rich and Franklin D. Richards were compiled by Robert L. Campbell, Thomas Bullock, and John Jaques in 1861.
Histories are arranged alphabetically. At the end of the collection are some printed histories extracted from the Deseret News. See CR 100 150 and CR 100 102 for histories that were included as part of Brigham Young's manuscript history. For Heber C. Kimball's manuscript autobiography, see Kimball's papers (MS 627). A biography of Erastus Snow has not been located.
