Bulk of papers consists of correspondence between President Smith and his wives, children, siblings, cousins, other family members, and close friends. Many documents in collection reflect his role as missionary in Hawaii and Great Britain, clerk in Historian's Office, president of Davis Stake, supervisor of Endowment House, president of European Mission, member of Salt Lake City Council, representative in Utah Territorial Legislature, member of Council of the Twelve Apostles, counselor in First Presidency, and President of Church.
