Includes the following: lists reflecting earliest emigration company organizations in late 1845 and early 1846; lists of companies' organizations at Pleasant Point and Garden Grove, Iowa in April 1846; organization schedules for Brigham Young's and Heber C. Kimball's emigration divisions at Winter Quarters in February 1847; list of the first pioneer company in April 1847; returns and travel reports of 1847 spring emigration camp led by Parley P. Pratt and John Taylor; organization schedules for Brigham Young's and Heber C. Kimball's 1848 emigration divisions; and schedules and travel reports for Willard Richards's 1848 emigration division.
Also includes minutes and papers of William C. Staines as the historian for the 1847 spring emigration, and travel reports from 1849 companies of Ezra T. Benson, Silas Richards, George A. Smith, Orson Spencer, and Allen Taylor.
Many of the reports were compiled or copied by clerks John D. Lee, Thomas Bullock, Robert L. Campbell, and James Sloan. The records were later used and marked by historians, including B. H. Roberts and Andrew Jenson. Some of their datings are incorrect.
