The Southern States Mission was organized in November 1876. On 28 June 1902, the Middle States Mission was organized from the Southern States Mission. The Middle States Mission was discontinued 7 August 1903, and was joined with the Southern States Mission again. On 9 December 1928, the East Central States Mission was organized from the Southern States and Eastern States Missions.
The Southern States Mission was renamed the Georgia-South Carolina Mission in June 1971. Its name was changed again 20 June 1974 to the Georgia Atlanta Mission.
